Boat Experiments

Writer's picture: undefined

Working together to build an object that floats-- using materials you have around the house-- can help build problem solving skills! Use the scientific method as you try different ideas and build your best boat.

Supplies:

Plastic containers, foam sheets or trays, straws, craft sticks, string, duct tape-- use your imagination as you look around for items that might work; sink or tub of water

How-to:

1. Think about qualities of boats. What makes it float? Pick a design starting point and start constructing your boat!

2. When you finish your first version of your boat, test it out in some water. What do you notice? What modifications would you like to make?

3. Make your changes and then test again!
